Re CHELSEA HANDLER ("CHELSEA LATELY") & REESE WITHERSPOON: The REAL THING IS BETTER
So I'm at the CHELSEA HANDLER talk show shortly before Christmas 2010. Its called "Chelsea Lately" and it's my first time there. Unique setting for the show, you would never suspect they do a talk show in this warehouse on Olympic Ave in west Los Angeles. But there it is and there I was expecting to see Reese Witherspoon as the special interview guest.
As it turned out, they had pre-recorded Chelsea's interview with Reese (who, by the way, I saw receive a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame a few weeks prior; and seemed like a nice gal; she even brought her kids with her). Anyways, they showed us the tape of the interview or conversation between Chelsea & Reese and the one interaction that STANDS OUT in my mind, in retrospect is when Chelsea asked Reese about the "love scenes" she's been in, in recent movies.s
Reese responded, and then Chelsea said something like the following: "That's so nice. Its even better than sex in real life. No guilt...." ha ha. Of course, love scenes taped for tv & movies is not real love or sex . The closest thing to "real" is maybe they actually kiss in front of the camera. Anything else that happens is probably fully clothed under blankets.
The point is that Chelsea's comment highlights the FALSITY of Hollywood and the danger of making "fake life" better than "real life." Its a theological danger, actually. Jesus Christ came to earth as an example of the power of "incarnation" (I.e. "in the flesh", in this case meaning positively presenting one's self as human; in other cases "in the flesh" can mean negatively & harshly judgmental of others).
God wanted us to be positively IN THE FLESH, meaning genuine, authentic, actual interactions with others. This means life is sometimes messy. Peoples feelings get hurt. Physical pain happens, as well as physical pleasure: i.e. real sex & love between a real man & real woman in a real committed relationship . Sometimes "love hurts" but that's life. Jesus truly felt the pain on the cross. It wasn't simulated. We must keep trying to truly engage with one another despite the chance & probability of getting hurt. We cannot fall for pretend love, pretend sex, and call it "real" or "better" simply because it is a way to avoid getting hurt or hurting others.

Its about minimizing their perseverance thru difficulty without numbing their brains and bodies . It is comparable to doubting the suffering of Christ on the cross, or to say "He must have been drunk on the cross to deal with the pain." No he wasn't. He felt every single nail and all the pain, and FOR OUR SAKE. Nonetheless, Jesus did offer "transcendence" from the pain of this world thru companionship with the body of Christ and we have the Eucharist today as did they also join in communion with Jesus, including a little bit of wine. But it wasn't the wine that took them away, it was the brotherhood (& sisterhood, later) of Christ. That is our transcendence, not drugs or drunkenness. We suffer together as a whole body thus helping eachother cope.

*12/23/10 I JUST LEFT GEORGE LOPEZ SHOW w/ HAILEE STEINFELD
12/23/10 ...so I just left the george lopez show ...haley hailee (?) steinfeld from "True Grit' was a live guest. Jack Black was listed as a guest but they actually taped his segment yesterday, so we didn't get to see him, nor did they show the taped segment, which was a disappointment.
I was in line @ 10am this morning..no ticket..but was told they give out tickets @ 11am. In fact, they actually didn't give tickets until 11;30 . I was either given the wrong info. or they were late. In fact, I was almost ready to leave @ 11:20 when the ticket gals arrived. I had actually tried to reserve a ticket online at 1iota.com but couldn't confirm nor print it.
By the way, the line for lopez tickets is in the same place as the line for conan tickets, in the parking structure across from warner bros on forest lawn. So I got my ticket & was told to come back @ 3:30 . I did a few errands and spent some time at burbank buena vista library on my laptop & then returned at 3;20 . I was expecting some gruff security guards as I had encountered at the conan show but these guys were friendly. They treated me well. I looked around and it was almost all Latinos in line, so I felt a little out of place, but after a while I felt more comfortable. Nobody was messsing with me, unlike a few times @ dodger stadium.
I didn't have my phone or watch so I lost track of time, but the guy next to me said it was 430 when we were walking toward the studio. I figured the show taped at 5 and we would be out by 6 but in fact we didn't get out until about 7 pm . I wasn't stressed b/c the time went quickly. I had never seen the Lopez How before nor been to this show so I was pleasantly surprised by the way it went and that I was authentically laughing periodically.
First, the warmup guy, Ron Pearson, who I had encountered as the warmup at "Rules of Engagement" was doing his thing right from the beginning. He told some of the same jokes (re jehovah witness, re 3-headed giant, re lady gaga & poker face) and a few new ones and also did some of his juggling tricks, including the chair & ladder on his chin. Sometimes he seems to intentionally over affectuate the "geeky white" act and doesn't need to do so . I also feel a little uncomfortable with his "gay act." He doesn't need to do that either, but I guess he's made it part of his act. He pissed some guy off at "Rules of Engagement" with that act, though. Anyways, I guess he'll keep doing it as long as he can get away with it. Some of his act is pretty good, pretty funny, but he can get a little "bold" sometimes , including a black joke in the beginning, but then everything is about race & skin color around hollywood, and george lopez did his racial jokes also.
After Ron warmed us up & got us ready to cheer & laugh, finally Lopez came in. He did several minutes of monologue but I didn't see any cue cards. Was he doing his own monologue without cues ? Later I noticed him reading prompts but not during the opening monologue (maybe I just couldn't see it). His joke about Jesus left me wondering if this was irreverent and blasphemous or something acceptable as a joke. He wondered how Jesus & the disciples could have dealt with everything they endured without smoking pot. He noted they all "wore sandals" ...and followed one person (Jesus, he was "the dealer" Lopez explained ). People laughed but I sensed some discomfort with it.
Then he did a twitter spoof..taking tweets from people and answering them ..and at one point pulled out a "snow maker" which actually shot white confetti all over the audience, including me, ha ha. I still have white dots on me an hour after the show.
Lopez is a funny looking guy. He's got a face that makes you laugh. He looks like the kid who was always the class clown and who wants to keep you laughing. He also broke into a little spanish now & then to the delight of the mostly Latino audience. & he moves around a lot, physically, including during the opening monologue.
During a break, the staff moved some people and I found out why a few moments later. Lopez made an italian pizza joke, something about the "cheese in the crust" and suddenly the guy in front of me popped out of his chair and ran up on stage ...playing the part of an "indignant Italian" re a stupid American mistake about Italian pizza..this went on for a little while ..kind of funny ..
Finally, Haley Steinfeld came on stage. She's the 14 year old actress in the new movie, True Grit, starring Jeff Bridges & Matt Damon. She was a lively, likeable personality and talked about getting chosen out of 15,000 persons for the part in the film. She talked about how she had to learn to shoot a gun & toll a cigarette . They showed a small clip from the movie. Looks interesting.
During the various breaks, a bunch of free t-shirts & a few lopez dvd's were given away ...pearson kept working the audience ..lopez came out into the audience...at one point he joked to a white staffer saying "What the F do you want?" as the guy was trying to indicate what Lopez should be doing (they're always whispering something...same thing on Leno & Conan).
Then they introduced the musical group "Filter." Hadn't heard them before, but they are an intense act ...couldn't fully understand the lyrics, but me being the "holy man" that I try to be..I was saying the Lord's Prayer by that time. I try to say it several times a day, usually at mass, but if not, then wherever I happen to be. And so I was really calling out God's name while they were screaming away. It was a beautiful experience...and only me & God knew what was happening at that moment. Thanks Filter for helping me praise Jesus two days before Christmas, unbeknownst to you.
By the way, there was a nice Christmas tree on the set with some fake presents under it. Ironically, I drove by George's house only a few days ago. He lives not far away in Toluka Lake. Nice house, but not a mansion. I heard his son is a good skateboarder.
Also, btw, I remember on Thanksgiving Day at the Laugh Factory a Latino lady in line saying she didn't like Lopez anymore b/c he apparently had been unfaithful to his wife even after she had donated a kidney to him. I didn't hear about that, but Lopez did make a kidney joke..about people giving him alcohol for Christmas despite having only one kidney. Hope the marriage issues have worked out for the better.
After Filter finished playing the show was over. I only wished they had inserted the Jack Black pre-taped segment for us to watch. We walked back out to our cars, no rain , and now I'm at a Christmas concert ...

On briarcliff, ...unique in that they are one of the few celebrity couples that do not list a home in bev hills...and this house is a house, not a mansion, and you can actually see the front door thru the gate ...of course I wouldn't be surprised if they have a BH home as well, but its not listed by star maps.. They do have a malibu home near my post office which I haven't seen yet.

12/21/10 HILARIOUS MOMENT @ "CHELSEA LATELY" re BETTY FORD
I attended the taping of "Chelsea Lately" on 12/21 and during the "round table" the discussion turned to Betty Ford clinic..I suppose they mentioned something about Lindsay Lohan being there, but I don't recall exactly. What I do recall is that one of the comedians assumed Betty Ford was dead and then Chelsea said "I thought so too..." but apparently she knows better now.
C'mon folks, you should KNOW BETTER ...this is a former president's wife. You should know if a former president or his wife has already passed away or not. That should NOT be something you have to "look up." Betty Ford is alive & well & not "ancient." She is the wife of former president Gerald Ford who passed away a few years ago. She is also the founder of the Betty Ford clinic for those with alcohol & drug addiction issues.

LIVE ! HOLLYWOOD BLOGGER LEAVING "CHELSEA LATELY"
12/21/10 I just left a taping of a show called "Chelsea Lately" starring Chelsea Handler as a talk show host & taped at a studio near Olympic & Bundy in west Los Angeles (I arrived in the rain at 130pm left at 3pm) . They started with what they call a "round table" session which included three comedians, two of whose name I remembere: Chris Hardwick & Chris Franjola. There is also a height-challenged fellow who sits on the side & goes by the name Chuy Bravo , & plays the role of sidekick for Chelsea.
The segment began with the comedians & chelsea discussing current events. They did a segment about the weather (its been raining here for three straight days now) and Chelsea joked about staying in bed watching tv. Then they talked about Charlie Sheen and his ex-wife, making a few more jokes. Then somehow the conversation turned to female body parts, one part in particular, adult & graphic in language, with one of the comedians arguing with Chelsea about the topic, and she was rather insulting towards him in return. By the way, there's a lot of F bombs thrown around during the discussion (that used to bother me as a Christian and I still think its unneccessary but I hear it so often now, its almost as if its just an adjective meaning "very", with people trying to show their radical by using it. Its just not necessary. Jts meaningless).
There is a warmup guy who makes sure people are laughing and clapping. I was expecting a guest interview but they inserted a pre-taped interview of Reese Witherspoon instead. So we watched the interview from last week. Reese mentiond building a barn and thought it was ridiculous when Chelsea asked her about milking the animals. Apparently, they are also in a movie together coming soon and flew on a plane with each other. Reese didn't mention her new star on hollywood blvd (which I saw unveiled).
And that was about it. The guys who do the seating asked people if they wanted to stay for the next show (with a live guest) but I had already told them I couldn't. In fact, I was just about ready to leave because they had run out of seats for the first show when the guy came back and said, "I found one seat." So I took a seat on the side. The warmup guy even threw a ball to me but it was too high to catch and went behind the curtain.
The staff was decent. Standing in line in what is basically a warehouse was a bit unique. Leaving the show, it was still raining as I crossed back over Olympic and walked down Bundy to my car.

12/20/10 Re SKATING WITH the STARS
12/20/10. I just left CBS city where the show "Skating with the Stars' is taped live (for ABC, ironically, and produced by BBC ? Go figure) .Olympic skier Johnny Mosley (gold medal, 1998 winter olympics) & his partner Brooke Castille were eliminated. Johnny Weir was particularly critical of the song "Let's Get it On" and the sexuality of it.
Bethany Frankel & Ethan Burgess managed to stay alive despite medium scores, lower than they deserved I thought (altho they needed a little more energy) but they still managed to nudge out Johnny & Brooke. Rebecca Budig & Fred Pascak had the highest score from the judges. They came out first and almost got perfect tens, with only a few nines.
It's a well-run production, the wait outside was a little long, but I've been to worse. Inside, the people were friendly. The skating rink is small but elegant. One of the camera crewman slipped on the ice & fell flat on his back (not hurt) , to the amusement of the warm-up guy & a few in the crowd. We cheered on cue and some of us booed a few times at some of the low scores. I also think Johnny Weir was a little too critical re Johnny Mosley's choice of music. Show some grace, Johnny.

12/8/10 So I bought a slice of pizza at the nearby NY PIZZA place on way to the hollywood star ceremony for hans zimmer...its not worth $5 by the way, but I bought a slice to add a little "local color" to the process..its what u see here on hollywood blvd...was eating it , minding my own business, when some dude comes up to me & says "Dang, where did you get that ?" I knew instantly he was not being sincere & immediately started to move position..& then he added, "Its tiny" ...for some reason he wanted to insult me or make me feel bad..been here in hollywood & L.A. to know how things work but there are the never-ending list of locals who still want to try to mistreat & insult me as if I just got off the bus from the midwest...now its 11:10 am and the star ceremony still has not begun..strange..b/c the reese witherspoon ceremony was very timely ...
12/6/10 ..he's the guy from "The Daily Habit" over @ Fox Studio on 12/1/10 (after the reese witherspoon star ceremony) who I distrusted when he claimed "security" wasn't allowing me in (with no reason)...I thought he was lying..but now I'm inclined to think he was telling the truth..& that it was the black security lady working alone who didn't like me, simply prejudice ...it seems to fit with my feeling around town (L.A.) that "reverse discrimination" is on the rise..(his name tag said "Layne" btw) ...& I just happened to run into him b/c had a ticket for "Skating with the Stars" @ CBS today (12/6/10) for 3:30pm but couldn't make it until 4..& so he turned me away again (this time legitimately, I think) ...these studios have to maintain a strict cut-off time & not play favorites, which I accept ..but on 12/1 I was fifteen minutes early & had all the credentials (ticket + I.D.)

"dolly" who he said has a "big house in the valley" & whose daughter works @ house of blues ...she started talking to me..about movies, showed me a brochure re a movie up for "best foreign film" @ academy ...looked like a weird film ...like brokeback mountain ..she made some racist comments abt black people & chicken ..actually, in her defense, she was trying to criticize the stereotype but it came off sounding racist herself (its not something to try to intellectually analyze in a crowd of people..I could tell a black lady nearby had partially heard something & didn't like it)...dolly also mentioned family in banning who she didn't like .
The other lady mentioned that she didn't like george lopez anymore b/c he apparently had an affair with another lady even after his wife donated one of her own kidneys to him (what a jerk, if true)...I hadn't heard about that (I guess george is divorced now)...they said george did the laugh factory show last year on thanksgiving..
..also paul rodriguez was in line (actually came out & took a smoke break by the line, then went back inside..I didn't know he was a "somebody" until a person said "that's paul rodriguez"(who? I don't follow the comedy circuit)...a comedian who apparently is paying for much of the free thanksgiving at laugh factory, but he didn't come up on stage ..

11/25/10 RECAP of TONIGHT SHOW, THANKSGIVING DAY (tonight show blog):
... in line..african-american guy wearing tomlinson jersey behind me at jay leno..staff : one guy from hastings MN (good guy), another from SD, another also from MN ..mm: "make your last call to loved ones.." ha .. I said to TomlinsonI "Does anybody speak english here". Tomlinson said "to each his own/...good cultural diversity"..I wasn't mocking it..just commenting ..adding, "I'm used to hearing spanish, but this sounds like czech, polish, hindi...etc". .. just my luck I had one of those types next to me who thinks EVERY SINGLE THING that happens on the show is absolutely HILARIOUS. He's hooting & hollering in my ear ...non-stop..he's the one u will hear yell, "WE LOVE ELIZABETH!" When she comes on... Its the guy w/ the tommlinson jersey ..anyways, apart from that ..monologue was fairly good..jokes about how much americans eat ..some tsa jokes of course..this one was funny..of the macys parade showing a giant inflatable tsa dude feeling up one of the macys inflatables ..then elizabeth came on ..she talked abt her husband ..leno kept asking abt her husband too ...she talked abt "the ledge" & showed a clip from it..she actuallu was on a high ledge in nyc ..for the filming of it ...she plays a prisoner in another movie w/ russel crowe ...then marjorie johnson, a chef from minnesota ...she talked a lot . Jay asked her if her husband has ever said anything since "I do' at the wedding..she said he says "yes dear" ha ha *they've been married 64 years ! Finally carrottop came on with a bunch of gag props ...including one of the new bush book which he made the nose grow (I.e. pinocchio)...also a shopping bag wiith a boxing glove for women on black Friday ...and. bunch of others..fairly humorous..pretty good stuff ...first time I've seen carrot top ...oh, the show starts tge same way every time ..with videos of musicians incl justin bieber..adam lambert (no thanks)..& a few others ...& the skinny african-american warmup guy ...he changed his imitation of a receiver being tackled to a parachutist who just realized in mid-air he grabbed his backpack instead of his parachute ..kind of good.hope he keeps coming up with new ones..the downside of the leno show are the STARING poker-faced security guards *(& a few burbank police) during commercial breaks ..also being next to a total moron..(dude, u don't HAVE to laugh at hi-volume at EVERY single thing..take a breath, calm down, use your brain,)

11/19/10 One of the more cheap studios..last time @ gary unmarried pb&j sandwiches..this time cheese pizza, not even pepperoni...staff & security is decent..even good, except for one jerk who tried to bark orderd @ us as we were leaving to "keep it moving..."..pretty beliggerent considering we had just sat in the studio for almost 6 hours...watching the takes & re-takes of "better with you".....considering you couldn't even pay a lot of people to sit in a studio for 6 hours without a break to laugh & applaud respectfully...but yet we would do it for nothing..only to be barked at as we leave...& after only a slice of cheese pizza and a 6 ounce bottle of water ? Get outta here !

11/17/10 daryl bohanan..utla ...david peters,..leonard siegal, danny moran (?), daryl kept saying this is "nickelodeon" times in reference to internet...he also mentioned ron brown & repeatedly the AIG insurance bailout...but that the bank bailouts are "inconsequential"..in comparison to AIG ..he was also trying to encourage me in regards to my sentiments of feeling that I've been treated in racist ways at schools...he said the kids see me as a "Christian geek"..not sure if he was actually trying to offend me at some point..I had mentioned to him that I was a Christian..& made little inspirational films..short ones..& he mentioned his past involvement w/ "science of the mind"...which apparently includes Jesus in their teachings in one way or another ..

...should be on. TV IN A FEW HOURS ..second time I've seen harrison ford on a talk show..first time was on jimmy kimmel ...& both times he seemed VERY NERVOUS ...he kept rubbing the arms of the chair he was sitting in ...& then rubbing his legs ..long pause before answering conan ...very strange (again)...he also said he didn't recognize conan when he bumped into him at an even where both their kids apparently attend school..they talked about flying planes..(harrison is a pilot) & they showed a clip of conan's blimp ...talk about stressed, conan's face ALWAYS looks stressed even when he's smiling...& harrison said his character in his new movie is an "ass" ...conan told harrison he has an intimidating glare ..so harrison tried to smile a little bit more ...then came actress rosario dawson for her new movie...she said she was not attractive in high school ...she's on the cover of GQ magazine in germany ...then reggie watts did a part comedy routine & part musical performance ...& that was it..conan has some of the same members of the band back...including the long-holding note trumpet player ..jimmy pardo does a short warmup ..& andy richter does his thing..I even recognized the same ticket girl ..(maybe it's conan's wife, ha ) ...& its a long walk from parking to the studio .past many, many stages @ warner bros. in Burbank, including the george lopez & big bang stage also "the whole truth" among others ...nice thing is that its efficient ..staff are pretty good

Subsequently, Amy @ OCATV called "The Daily Habit" production & (in agreement with what Layne told me at the studio; who, btw, I saw doing tickets again on 12/6/10 @ CBS for "SKATING with the STARS" see my hw blog for further details) claimed that production had nothing to do with it, but that for some reason Fox Security made the decision to not let me in (or was it just the one, female, African-American, security guard who made a sole decision to make it difficult for me ?).
Meanwhile, Officer Mendez @ Fox claims it was a "production decision" & the times I talked to her she made me feel as if she was doing me a "big favor" by giving me any information at all. I also spoke with an Officer Morgan @ Fox and he was a little more courteous, but said I shouldn't worry about it or waste my time & energy pursuing it. He also would NOT tell me the last name of "Greg" the security supervisor & said that Greg still had NOT responded to any questions . I also spoke with Betty & then Courtney, both Fox employees, who said that "The Daily Habit" was responsible, not Fox, & that the "Daily Habit" merely rents a spot at Fox Studio.
When I called again (the next day) "Officer" Morgan (are they really "officers" or just dudes with uniforms?) started telling me that I was "harrassing" them, but I said the feeling is mutual, & felt that either Fox "security" or The Daily Habit production was harrassing & mistreating ME ! I had a ticket, my identification, & am a good citizen & always behave properly at all studio shows & tapings, & have never been denied entry nor asked to leave any show or studio for any reason.

30) My feeling as I said in a vid clip is that this is like "HELL ON EARTH", all the negative vibes, gangster clothes & tattoos, the fans wannabe gangster surly style, trying to be "bad", etc. They seem so depressed & sad. Then I remember Chargers have a long winning streak over the Raiders, which the Raiders finally snapped. I really am NOT a die-hard Chargers fan, but just happened to grab the San Diego hat...could have worn an Angel hat..should have worn my A's hat, now that I think about it. I'm not a die-hard Raiders fan either. I did have some affection for them when they were in L.A. many years ago, which seemed to piss off that lady who apparently wants to forget or deny Raiders ever were in L.A. I'm glad for the Raider fans that they won. It doesn't really matter to me AT ALL to be honest, but once they identified me as a Charger fan ..they wanted to keep it black-&-white, not grey.
Poor depressed Raider fans,,,wake up, there's SO MUCH MORE TO LIFE..
