1/15/12 AUSTRALIA's 1st ACADEMY AWARDS (NOMINATIONS): "Nominations for the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts(AACTA) international awards were announced by Academy Award nominee Jacki Weaver ("Animal Kingdom") at Saturday's G'Day USA Black Tie Gala in Los Angeles. The AACTA Awards were established last year to replace the AFI Awards, which have been honoring the best of Australian cinema since 1958. With the addition of five new international categories (Picture Actor, Actress, Director and Screenplay), the AACTA is positioning itself as an alternative to BAFTA as a bellwether for the Oscars..."
