2/2/11 cblog CANDELMAS: CHRIST the LIGHT, LET US SHINE AS BRIGHT; St. Dominic m: "Todays feast..several names..also called feast of purific..she needed no purif..but she was obedient to the law,..also called presentation..also called candelmas..day when candles are blessed..wondering the roots of this day..feast of light..found...also midway betw winter & spring..also something pagan akin to groundhog day..should be....its a feast of light looking forward to a greater light of spring..more bibliclly..simeon when receives christ child says "my eyes have seen your salvation..a light for rev. To gentiles..referring to christ..a light for gentiles..glory of people of israel but also all nations..so christ is a kind of light..so when we bless these candles.
