SOMEBODY TELL BOB SANTELLI, GRAMMY MUSEUM, , THAT THERE R BLACKS & LATINOS (& ASIANS) IN IOWA ...this guy's the director of the grammy museum in los angeles..pretty good guy in general, but one thing that bothers me is that periodically when he is speaking (actually "teaching" a class at the grammy...these are "survey" type courses of diffrent genres of music such as hip-hop, or a specific musician such as elvis) is make a reference to "Iowa" people as the antithesis (opposite) of all things hip & musically relevant, etc. And as if all Iowans are white conservative Christians living near a church & a cornfield & have never heard rock music before, of if they have, don't like it.
He made a flippant reference to "Iowa" as an anithesis to hip-hop music, with the connotation being that Iowa is ALL WHITE, lily white people, or all conservative white Christians, or all white people like the uptight type depicted at the PTA meeting in Field Of Dreams, etc. All of whom are nerds who probably only listen to "church music."
Santelli should know better, especially given the fact that Iowans fought for the north in the Civil War to set slaves free. Part of Santelli's bias is that he's from New Jersey & Jersey people have a bit of an attitude. Yet, Santelli wasn't born yesterday. He's 50 or 60-something and has been around (incl. time in Cleveland & Seattle, & now Los Angeles, among other places, as far as I know)
C'mon Bob. ALL of the USA is now a melting pot of people of different colors, no state is an exception.Don't be a fear monger. The Iowa jokes may be an easy way to appease a black crowd in Los Angeles, but still NOT fair, nor honest.
