10/8/11 THOSE w/o PROPER WEDDING CLOTHES CHOSE NOT 2 WEAR IT; st jbap 5p [comment: good clarification of this passage about those w/o proper wedding clothes being kicked out of the wedding...many people think its a bit harsh to throw people out for not wearing perfect clothes to the wedding, but the priest explains that in that day & age the guests were provided with the clothes to wear by the host, so if they don't have on the proper clothes its because they CHOSE not to wear them, an insult to the wedding hosts. It's not b/c they couldn't afford good clothes or simply picked the wrong fashion.; Ironically I've heard previous homilies by less-informed pastors who have misinterpreted this as being a lesson about the importance of dressing properly/modestly when going to church. End comment]
m: "...re king who threw out person w/o proper clothes ...I read commentary..if people didn't have proper clothes..the wedding hosts would provide it. ...thus this man had been given the proper dress, but simply didn't wear it ..lesson being..if we r called to christ but refuse His grace, he's not going to force it upon us .. other readings, re king's generosity...feast, good shep ..spreads table ..great god so gnerous ..those who do accept ..they acceptwe can't say we r deserving of faith..it was a gift given ..none deserve .born into church fam or ..apply to present situation ...how do we respond to godls generosity...cb indifferent..or we could return w/ tgiving ..this eve also...am gratful for this pastorship here @ st jbap..7 years ..as I conclude..need to say a few things..one that the pastor is a human..we have r imperfections ..there may be things about me that u don't like ...maybe some were looking for something I didn't have or did have ..can't please all people all the time ..what I may have done or failed to do I may have offended ..please extend any apologies for those not here..my new assignment at aquinas college as chaplain .re stewardship .recognize god's gifts..thanksgiing is central ..ask u 2 use gifts given wisely..were not here 4ever...pastors leave b/c they die, move, or just leave..nothing's permanent..share ..generously ...opening prayer, good conclusion..showing love...... Philippians 4.12-20 (parts of) "Brothers and sisters I know how to live in humble circumstances; I know also how to live with abundance. In every circumstance and in all things I have learned the secret of being well fed and of going hungry of living in abundance and of being in need I can do all things in him who strengthens me Still, it was kind of you to share in my distress My God will fully supply whatever you need in accord with his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. To our God and Father, glory forever and ever. Amen." Matt 22.1-14 " Jesus again in reply spoke to the chief priests and elders of the people in parables, saying"The kingdom of heaven may be likened to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son. He dispatched his servants to summon the invited guests to the feast, but they refused to come A second time he sent other servants, saying"Tell those invited: "Behold, I have prepared my banquet my calves and fattened cattle are killed, and everything is ready; come to the feast." Some ignored the invitation and went away one to his farm, another to his business The rest laid hold of his servants, mistreated them, and killed them The king was enraged and sent his troops, destroyed those murderers, and burned their city Then he said to his servants, 'The feast is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy to come Go out, therefore, into the main roads and invite to the feast whomever you find." The servants went out into the streets and gathered all they found, bad and good alike and the hall was filled with guests. But when the king came in to meet the guests, he saw a man there not dressed in a wedding garment. The king said to him, 'My friend, how is it that you came in here without a wedding garment?' But he was reduced to silence. Then the king said to his attendants, 'Bind his hands and feet and cast him into the darkness outside where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.' Many are invited, but few are chosen."
