11/1/11 ZACK SWIRE of E-GOOD re TECHNOLOGY FOR THE KINGDOM

video-2011-11-01-10-43-06.3gp Watch on Posterous

11/1/11 ZACK SWIRE of E-GOOD TALKS ABOUT USING TECHNOLOGY TO REACH PEOPLE FOR THE KINGDOM ...specifically online ...things ministries & churches can do to be more effective & appealing to their current & potential new church members ...11/1/11 STEVE WILBURN of CORE CHURCH L.A.,
SPEAKS @ IMPACT 2011(I DON'T have many notes from Steve's speech) (for steve wilburn audio portion, go to http://vanderkok.posterous.com/11111-steve-wilburn-of-core-church-la-speaks )11/1/11 OTHER COVERAGE of IMPACT 2011, a FREE HALF-DAY CONFERENCE FOR PASTORS @ AZUSA PACIFIC UNIVERSITY : (partial audio, video, & notes, not complete, for some of the other  audio, go to http://hearingtheword2.posterous.com/11111-coverage-of-impact-2011-a-free-half-day) INTRO to seminar, guy named kennedy (?) (Who was the MC) comes up (apparently a vp at  kkla), "We love pastors", ..were going to talk abt strategies, intro to Jon Wallace, president of Azusa, gives welcome says atgatherings he strives to not be the most overdressed person, but can't say he isn't at this one (ha ha, guy next to me wearing shorts, one of the later speakers shirt hanging out; later Frank kicking back w/ shirt hanging out), , then intro to construction company executives who talk about issues when building a new church, actual construction issues, he mentins the "4 D's" (distrust, distance, dilution, disaster), causes stress, shows a diagram ...like a pyramid with owner on top, architect & builder on bottom & God in middle, says the architect actually works fr the general contractor, not the owner, ...avoid complex forms...mentions function-asthetics-cost, intro to Don Romo...Mention "thinking green", Lennox equipment, don't cut costs by using cheap material that will need costly maintenance, then he moves into actually DOING MINISTRY to the construction workers,...fascinating...he says one church had women cut the men's hair for free..this touched these men, ...they show vid clips with various pastors saying things, incl Rob Best fr churchof nazarene...how he had church members jot scripture verses on the building beams before they were planted (reminded me of throwing a pocket bible down into the dirt of the construction site at the hospitality center @ crystal cathedral), also Dierdre Wright (bbq for construction workers), Bobby Harrel from Leesburg, Becky Howell (sierra church ?), , Dan Cook BGW construction, Bill & Kathleen came up. Next..that's the name of their radio show ? Bill & Kathleen.Bill intro's himself, says he was homeless at one point, and is now the owner of American Vision Solar, largest of its kind in America ? His wife is Kathleen..she says she is an ex-liberal, ex-tree hugger, , then came to Know Jesus (Why can't you love trees AND Jesus, Ha ha), she mentions "Tom's Shoes" which apparently gives a pair of shoes to the needy for every pair u buy. Kathleen Worthington of KKLA announces a $6000 giveaway of free advertising to one lucky person today (the place is not overly huge, odds are good, also a free i-pad for somebody, but not me b/c I didn't put my name in the bowl, )....then there's a break, when I come back apparently this is attorney Marshall Frost speaking about the importance of  "family trusts" ...& how too many people die without a proper will & because of this a lot of money goes to the courts and/or govt and/or attorneys as it gets tied up in probate, when it could go to helping the church & the kingdom... NEXT UP, Bob from American Christian Credit Union, founded in 1958, originally devoted to the Nazarene church, now to all Christians, ..then a lady (didn't catch her name) from the credit union (who gave me a notepad as I walked in) spoke about capital campaigns (altho when she asked if anybody was involved in a capital campaign at the moment, I didn't see many, if any, raise their hands), and that they r willingto give better terms than any other financial instit. Because "it will help the kingdom grow" .., NEXT UP New Media, Zack Swire (?) E-good, he gives a slideshow and talks about the importance of using media to reach people...says 23% of people spend time online, facebook 800 million (mention viral vids such as the sneezing babypanda, and david after dentist), he says we need to "engage" not just on Sunday (yes!),61% of people say a church's website isvery important..shows examples of good versus not so good websites,,,,,mentions need for mission, strategy, & to "create conversation", ..NEXT UP, or returning is Rich Kennedy again, he gives analogy of
L.A. being a "big fish pond", 41% of christian radio listeners are unchurched,  15% of them r non-Christian, 5% are atheists, 16% r looking for a church, NEXT UP, steve Wilburn from core church L.A. (I've heard him somewhere before..was he doing radio coverage during Harvest L.A. ? I Think so. He mentions he previously worked for greg laurie at harvest), ...mention of SWAT (students w/ a testimony), RichKennedy gives his email, invites us as pastors or ministry leaders to contact him & he might possibly be able to find space & time on the radio ( richard.kennedy@salemla.com ) ...after lunch (which I missed), they had a panel discussion (led by frank pastore) with several pastors including Dudley Rutherford (Shepherd of the Hills Church, Porter Ranch), Steve Mays (Calvary Chapel, South Bay), Jim Reeves(Faith Communty, W. Covina), & JP Jones (Crossline Community,Laguna Hills)....Reeves said that when he was starting out, trying to builda multi-ethnic ministry he felt like"Richie Cunningham" and asked how could he be a multi-ethnic leader, noting that during their first celebration of black history month, they had no blacks. He realized that to welcome people in of all ethnicities they must not simply be "tolerated", but "celebrated." Dudley complained of heavy-handed elders trying To tell him what to do.He had to find a way to work around them. One of them (maybe Jones) said he didn't want to be surrounded by all "yes men" nor all "no men." And when Jones started talking about "abiding in Christ" Frank interrupted & asked him to give some practical examples rather than cliches. Jones said he believes that when peoplehave found God 'scall, they will be happy. Those in his ministry who are disatisfied haven't found their call. He tries to help them discover what it is, & when they do, they r happy.  Dudley recalled his dad telling him "Only believe 10% ofwhat people tell u". Frank asked how many people inone's core group is "too big" and Reeves emphasized "family always first" (which all subsequently agreed with, albeit only Reeves made a point of emphasizing it., Mays mentioned that his daughter's husband had been murdered; Dudley mentioned that despite having spent a fairly significant amount of time with his son, his son was now doing a "Jonah", & he was very concerned) ..the others ranged from 5 to 10,with Dudley equivocating for a moment while Jones & Mays rudely made jokes & laughed and at one point Jones said, "Why don't u just say 5?"And Dudley said, "Because it's more than that." . One of them said he triesto avoid inundating the congregation with "information"and tries to concentrate on
"transformation."  ...and that was about it (also see audio & a few video clips). VanderKOK@gmail.com
