Mel was a chaplain friend or associate of my dad. He was a pastor in Hawaii for a while when the CRC still had their hospitality house up on the hill (which I remember visiting before it closed, when I was a student at Chaminade in Honolulu). Here's my mom & dad visiting with Mel & the late Sylvia in Honolulu

(I believe it was Sylvia who owned a clothes store in Breton Village for a while) . Mel doesn't look like a pastor here, does he ? More like a celebrity. He's a character. I saw him around Calvin College & seminary on numerous occasions. He was still teaching pastoral care at the seminary back in '97. Him and a few of the other American professors around the seminary kind of "guard their turf" there in Grand Rapids.
